Sony Corporation had to recall some units of the F and C series of the Vaio when they received about 39 cases of overheating complaints from unit owners. The affected units are the ones sold after January 2010. The issue also include the bending of the cases because of the overheating and could potentially burn users. There are however no cases of burns yet. The affected batch is said to be delivered and sold around the world.
Sending the unit back to Sony is not necessary as the problem can be resolved by just doing a software upgrade. Sony has released a list of affected units, check here. You you have an affected unit, you just need to download the update and that should do the trick.
