I came across the word “dulcimer” and it’s the first time I heard the word. I usually note every new word I hear and later search what it means (I’m a geek like that, huh?). Here goes…a dulcimer is a fretted string instrument belonging to the zither family. Usually with three or four string, dulcimers are said to have originated from the Appalachian region of the United States. Interesting, right? Even the shape of the instrument is interesting. It’s nice to learn something new each day.

I posted this in my IG:
The last of six Al Capones Ane bought yesterday. This is our favorite variant among J Co. doughnuts! Funny how we finished the 6 pieces in just a day! Super yummy. Ane said, next time, he’ll buy 10 Al Capones in a dozen instead of just six. Can’t wait!

K is taking her final assessment in a week’s time! After that, they are just going to prepare for their moving-up day on the 22nd. When February kicked in, I started to look around for summer activities for her because I’m pretty sure she won’t stop bugging me for things to do when we’re stuck at home. I wanted something music-related like lessons on violin or cello strings but I think she's still too young for those? And I thought, since she’s going to the big school come June, maybe we should send her to summer classes there so she can be familiarized with the surroundings. We’ll see.

I am quite amazed by how much K has bloomed in just a year (I need to blog about that in the main site). I think she's gotten out of her shell and now, she's overcome some of her anxieties that are normal to small kids. She wants to perform (on her birthday) and even asked for an instrument. Gladly, her instrument of choice is not like the fender coronado reissue at musicians friend, but she's happy with just anything improvised. Anyway, I asked Teacher She if it would be okay to spare K a few minutes (even just seconds!), and she said it's fine. Gotta record that one!

As I was doing my usual internet rounds, I read something about apricot seeds. They say apricot seeds (and almonds, hubby’s favorite nuts) are rich in vitamin B17 or laetrile. I am not sure if I heard B17 before now & its effect on the body so I went ahead and read some more. Well, they say some cancer patients take apricot kernels as an alternative cure (the site I saw where one can find best apricot kernels here isn't claiming anything though). Some eat these seeds also because they say it can prevent cancer too. This is all new to me, I don’t know if I should believe it now. Maybe in the next few years, the veracity of the claims will be all over the news.

In less than one month, my friends and I will watch Wicked the Musical. I just finished the book version and knowing now how the story goes, I got more excited to watch it.
I must admit that before reading the book, the only thing I know about the musical is the song Defying Gravity and the raves I hear & read from people who’ve already seen it abroad. I was planning to start listening to the songs after reading but I decided to continue my Wicked journey by reading the second book instead. I will just let the musical surprise me with the songs. ;)

For some families, the new year means making some changes in and around the house too. Imagine the amount of push-pull knobs purchased online and in-stores at the beginning of the year, not to mention other stuff needed for minor and/or major renovations? Since we just moved before the holidays, we’re not doing the same for now *insert sigh of relief here* We didn’t even have to spend for cleaning materials yet because we still have stocks.
How about you? What are your plans for your house this month and in the coming months?

Happy new year everyone! May this year be better than 2013 for you and for me. Let us all continue to be a blessing to others.

I’m probably the person least ready for Christmas. I only got gifts ready for those that we will surely see (like K’s classmates and teachers). On Friday is the party at RSI: morning for the kids and that evening, for the teachers and staff. Just like last year, we’ll have white elephant instead of the traditional gift exchange. Now I don’t have anything for that yet. I plan on giving something related to music though. Tomorrow, I will cram and must drag Ane to a music store before we enjoy the lights display at Ayala with the girls. Do you have a suggestion?
