About Kei this time.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

I am taking a short break from my writing assignment. My head hurts since yesterday and I woke up early this morning (read:330am to continue working!) with a lump in my throat. I am having an allergic rhinitis attack, must be the paint fumes from the neighbor who is renovating their house! Ack!

While taking some time off, I can hear a stray kitten outside the window, on our roof. The poor thing was probably born here and the mommy doesn’t know how to bring the kitty down. Makes me think that our dear Keisuke, an adult shih tzu is lucky to live with us. Since Abi was born though, I regret that I am not able to play with him. I think that makes him lonely, because he would bark at me (but still wagging his tail, so the barking is something positive), probably because he wants to play. I’m gonna make it up to him when we bring him to the vet for his shots and then to the groomers. He needs a haircut!

And I could probably do some shopping for him. Right now, I am surfing ShopWiki (where shopping and searching for stuff is easy!) to get ideas. Oh, Kei needs a new bed! And probably we could get him new toys too.

Okay, I’ll discuss this with my brothers and we’ll see what we can buy. For now, my break is over and I need to get back to work before Abi wakes up :)

Abi’s well-baby check-up.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Abi had her well-baby check-up last week, Thursday. She is now 4.3kilos and 56cm. Thank God she’s already gaining weight. She’s still below average when it comes to weight but at least she’s consistently gaining and is still within the average range.

Her pedia changed her milk from Nan HW 1 to just Nan 1 since he said Abi doesn’t need the special hypoallergenic milk anyway. And Nan 1 is cheaper, too by about p100, yey! We tried feeding Abi the new milk, but she refused it. So I alternated the two milks and now, she graciously drinks the new one. Good job, baby!

Abi also got her first shot of DPT-Polio and she was such a brave little girl. She cried a bit and stopped when Doctor Pedia tried to calm her down. Surely, doc has a way with kids! Doc also told us that her BCG shot is “alive”, which is a good thing.

Ok, more updates when Abi turns 3 months (wow, time flies!) on Thursday. For now, I gotta work. :)

Now what?

Klaire has stopped breastfeeding. I have a long entry in line (that I haven’t started writing yet!) that will dwell more on that. So now,  have no more reason to binge! I really have to watch what I eat if I do not want to put on so much weight. I am still 8lbs to go before I get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (and about 15lbs to my ideal weight), so I need some serious dieting. Do I need a diet pill? One thing’s for sure, I need to increase my physical activities!

Search for Pacman fight tickets…

Sunday and Monday were spent looking for tickets for the Pacquiao-Hatton fight on Sunday, May 3. On Sunday, we trooped to Powerplant after the mass in MTQ. All the 6 theaters were already  full except for the front row. Of course they didn’t like that. Mom tried to pull some strings and called someone. She was asked to wait until the next day for some confirmation.

Yesterday, we were told no tickets were scored so Ry had to find another place. Abi and I tagged along to Promenade. Only three rows up front were available. That’s when we realized that they’re kinda late in buying tickets this time. Even World Music is full. Ry called Ticketnet and was informed that there were still a lot of seat available in Araneta Coliseum. So off we went to Gateway. Abi and I waited in Taco Bell while he bought tickets.

Finally, they have tickets. Only my parents and brothers are watching. And they got the tickets cheaper than Rockwell and Promenade, hehe. It would have been cheaper (but less exciting) if we watch it at home via pay per view, but we don’t have a digibox here yet.

I would love to watch with them but I can’t bring Abi to the theaters yet. I also missed the Dela Hoya fight because I was big with Abi then, I might go into preterm labor if I got too excited LOL. SO, we’re staying home again and I just might watch it via live streaming in the net hehe.

Has summer gone?

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Wow, it’s been raining for days. Has summer really gone? It came and it went even before we were able to go somewhere and enjoy it. I was just searching the net for places to go, and I went on dreaming ‘coz I visited a site of a beach abroad! LOL!

There’s this Cancun All Inclusive package that seems promising. One gets to check-in in one of the Karisma Hotels on the beaches of the Mexican Riviera Maya. These hotels have secluded white beaches to boot! And I heard that the restaurants offer Gourmet food for certified foodies. The amenities are also world-class. So if you want to go on vacation in style, and if you have the budget, why not visit Mexico?

As for us, we’ll probably wait years before we can experience it, hehe.

Are your add-ons installed properly?

I love Firefox and I just recently (not exactly recent, hmmm) discovered through friends that I can customize my browser. I know I’m kinda behind so please don’t laugh at me :D

Anyway, when I gave up on Twitterfox, I thought I wouldn’t play around add-ons anymore but I was wrong of course. I got even more OC when I could not install NoScript and Google Toolbar as well. Argh, right?

So I searched online and posted the tip I found in my other blog.

Head on over there to find out how I was able to fix my little problem. Basically I just had to clear some files and the add-ons started to work. ;)

LF: Digital Ear Thermometer

Abi just had her first DPT-Polio vaccine last Thursday. Thank God she handles syringes well, she just cried a bit. Will share more about it in another entry. Anyway, since her Pedia told us she might get feverish because of the vaccine, I’m on the lookout for a Digital Ear Thermometer that’s cheap of course (we have a digital thermometer and a rectal thermometer at home, but it’s hard to get temperature from a fussy baby hehe. I am using what we have though, in the meantime).

Since I don’t have time to go to Bambang, I searched online. And I stumbled upon Allegro Medical. It is an online store where one can get almost anything that has something to do with medical and health supplies. Their products cater to infants to adults, being one of the largest and most technologically advanced online retailer of their kind in the US. While in the site, I also looked at their Blood Pressure Monitor. I might need a new one since what I have now yields varying results, sheesh. Surely, Allegro has everything that I might need when it comes to out health and medical issues. You might want to drop by yourself :)

Happy morning on a Saturday :)

My day started relatively nice :)

First, I was able to grab tasks. Not much, but I’m still glad. It’s been a while since my last grab.

Second, Mom and Dad were here so we were able to have breakfast together. My parents are just too happy to see that Abi has grown since they last saw her (about three weeks).

Then, we talked to my sister on the phone and they have great news to share. I won’t post it here yet but I will when everything is already final.

And finally, I received an email for a prospective writing project. I haven’t accepted it yet but I’m hoping it will push thru. I’ll let you know when that happens :)

Enjoy your weekend, people! :)

Beng tagged me :D

~ Parenting Style ~
1. Do you exercise full or minimal control over your child’s / children’s behavior?
- I have no control yet of Abi’s behavior, but I try to understand her clues so I can “train” her routines.
2. Do you expect your child / children to obey 100% or let her / him / them do what pleases her / him / them?
- Right now, I am practically Abi’s slave, wehehe.
3. Do you welcome discussion or you simply set rules?
- Knowing me, when Abi’s older, I think she’ll have to follow my set of rules but I’m open to discussions :D
4. Do you reprimand?
- More like requesting to settle down in a soothing voice rather than reprimanding. Abi’s too young to understand.
5. Do you use spanking for punishment?
- I hope I don’t get to that point; I don’t remember being spanked when I was a kid, so why spank Abi?
6. Do you use some kind of a reward System for motivation?
- In the future, I will because I believe in positive reinforcements.
7. Do you enjoy being a Parent?
- Absolutely!
8. Are you a hands-on Parent or do you have a full-time Nanny?
- Very hands-on, we don’t have a yaya.
9. At what age would you let your child make simple decisions for himself / herself?
- As soon as she can express herself (what to wear, what to eat), I’m only here to guide her. I want her to develop individuality and independence.
10.Do you and your Husband have the same Parenting Style?
- Yes, I’d like to think so. We’ve discussed things and we’re on the same boat, mostly.

- 2 years, 9 months and 23 days :D
12. How do you feel about being a Wife?
- Pampered :D

- Kamison :)
14. How do you show how appreciative you are of your Husband?
- I thank him, I kiss and hug him :)
15. What do you do when your Husband annoys you?
- I nag! Then I open up, seriously. Then nag some more, if talking didn’t help! If nagging and talking don’t work, I shut my mouth and wait for him to realize he’s being annoying!
1 6. You are buying or planning to buy your first house as Husband and Wife.
- Not a priority at the moment, but we have plans. We’re living with my brothers and  my in-laws and it’s still working fine for us (expenses-wise).

- Our Abi of course! :D

Snag it if you want! :)

Are you a gamer?

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Most of my friends own at least one gaming console: PS3, XBOX, Wii, and others. They’re the in thing. Kids would rather stay home than be out, nowadays.

My brothers are avid console gamers.  That’s my li’l bro above, playing Guitar Hero at home. My other brother has a business selling games.  As much as I would like to enjoy console gaming, I have a poor hand and eye coordination that I would rather just watch my brothers play than bother them. LOL! And I get dizzy just looking at the screen, I can’t stay long watching, hehe. I used to play Super Mario but that was then, when the graphics are still simple. And I guess I outgrew playing.

How about you? Are you a gamer?

Meeting the Bebots

Even if I am just home most of the time, I get to socialize with friends. Thanks to my Twitter/Bebot friends. We are bonded by the same things. And there is never a dull moment with them, especially during up times in Twitter.

So when Trin announced she’d be home from the US this April, we planned a get-together. I am thankful that the Bebots chose to hold it in a serviced condo unit in Makati, BSA Towers. That meant I didn’t have to miss the event because I can bring Abi with me. My brothers brought us there (thank you guys!), after fetching Ate Jen in Greenhills.

Joy planned to have games as icebreakers, but you know what? We didn’t need icebreakers! The moment everyone arrived, it felt like we’ve known each other personally for years! These are the ladies that I talk to almost everyday, it’s like I know them well enough to be not shy anymore.

We ate, played Taboo, received gifts, held a private photoshoot for Trin, and exchanged secrets! It was a day well-spent that I’d just be glad to do it again. Let’s do it again, ladies! And Abi cooperated and wasn’t fussy at all, even if we were all shouting and giggling all the time! My Ane picked us up before 9pm, that’s when I felt I was already tired, hah!

Anyway, thank you Ate Jen and Diane for the pictures above. Diane, Mich and Jacqui weren’t in the picture. And we missed Litz, Peachy and Rache too who all had to attend to their sick kids.

So when’s the next EB?!?! :D

Joaquin anecdote

My favorite nephew Joaquin is now ready, at five years old, to have a sibling. But he only wants to have a baby brother. So when his Mommy asked what they will do in case a Baby sister comes along, he answered:

“We’ll just give her away!”

LOL! Funny boy!

Derick’s Wedding

A brief introduction: I have two guy bestfriends, Edsel and Derick. That’s Derick to the left and Edsel to the right. We’ve been friends since mid to late 90’s (can’t remember exactly). But Edsel and I used to live in the same DSC_0222GSIS community in Sta. Mesa.  We were introduced by my college friend Odie – her cousin Kuya Ayie was Edsel’s schoolmate in the seminary in Quezon (only Kuya Ayie continued on the vocation). Odie and Kuya Ayie were actually playing match-makers! But fate has it that Edsel and I are bound to be just friends :) And then Derick was introduced to me when I would hang out at Edsel’s place. That’s how we started :) We’re so close that I even have pet names for them: Huggabub for Edsel and Munchkin for Derick -- no wonder I was always a subject of jealousy by their girlfriends LOL! No problem with my Ane though, because I met these two guys even before I met him! Anyway, we’d meet every now and then especially when Edsel is in town (he’s now based in Singapore).

They were both in my wedding in 2006.1156 But I missed Edsel’s wedding in December of last year. I was heavy with Baby Dot and the wedding was in Lucena, Quezon.  That’s too far to travel by land and my OB (and husband) didn’t approve such long travel at 8months. That was such a bummer, but I did what I had to do and that is to stay put in Manila. So when Derick announced he’d get married in April, I promised I’d be there even if I had to bring the baby along (I just had to make sure Abi’s already baptized).

Derick was married on Easter Monday (April 13).  The church was in Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao while the reception is at Glass Garden in Pasig. Ane had to work on that day, so we rushed to the church when he got home.  DSC_1278DSC_1324We got to the church on time, before the aisle walk started. I even had time to beso Edsel (who is the Best Man) and Derick.

The procession was long, they’ve got 17 pairs of Principal sponsors, imagine?! And the church coordinator got irked because the flower girls were throwing flowers on the aisle. He actually swept the carpet with a walis tingting, DURING the ceremony, such attention grabber! LOL!

The invitation said “Barong Tagalog” so it means that’s formal, ayt? I came in pants only because I just gave birth and I have no time to buy me another dress (most of my dresses don’t fit in the mid-section anymore) and I figured it would be easier for me to move with Abi in my arms. But at least I came as presentable as I can. I had Ane wear his Barong too. And what do you  know? Only Ane, who isn’t included in the entourage, came in Barong.  Some even attended in jeans, rubber shoes and crew-neck shirt! Oh well, the couple spent an arm and a leg to have a beautiful wedding just to have people (who they thought must be there) ruin the entire effect. It’s not like they requested everyone to wear tuxedo. The least they could do is wear something smart, right? Hay, people. Pinoy nga naman.

Anyway, I am so happy for Derick and Tin.  Their wedding almost didn’t push thru after Derick had to battle a Kidney disease in January. He almost didn’t make it, and it’s a miracle that he lived to attend his own wedding.  Tin was very emotional on their very special day.  If I had to go through their ordeal, I would have been pretty emotional too. So to Derick and Tin, congratulations and best wishes! Make a baby right away so Abi will have a playmate! :D

Today is the Feast Day of the Divine Mercy

Did you go to Mass today?

Sharing a short reflection in my other blog.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Another long weekend, ahead.

We’re more than halfway through April and May is just around the bend. And what do you know? Another long weekend up ahead! May 1, being Labor and Regular Non-Working Holiday, falls on a Friday! So have you got plans laid out already? How about an rv camping?

Our E! friends are planning a get-away for that weekend: a road trip to Zambales plus a day tour to Potipot Island. Everything is well-planned,thanks to genius Roy :) We’re are not yet sure though,  if we can join them because Ane has work that weekend. Plus he doesn’t know if he can still file a two-day leave because he reserved his leave for the Obando fiesta two weeks later.

We’ll see.

Health Scare

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Looks can be deceiving. Just because I look thin, doesn’t mean I don’t have health issues.Fine, I eat the right food, in fact I stay away from meat (not a big fan of beef at all!) and I love veggies and fruits. But there are things I cannot control.

I should have blogged about this weeks ago but just didn’t find the time. Anyway,

I had a ‘little’ health scare about three weeks ago. I was experiencing headaches and I was attributing it to the fact that I was losing sleep taking care of Abi. Thinking it was just normal, I shrugged it off.  One Wednesday at my OB’s and Abi’s Pedia’s clinic (we went for Abi’s well-baby check-up), I decided to consult something with my OB, nothing serious though. The nurse had to get my vitals, and while taking my BP, the nurse had to check twice – my BP was 150/100!

Dra. Connie was surprised as well. My normal BP is just 100/70! She got worried and listened to my heart, which sounded normal to her. After we discussed what I went there for, she suggested that I see an Internist/Cardiologist as soon as possible. Needless to say, I was worried, too.

The next day, I drove myself to the hospital (Can't bring the baby with me so Ane had to stay home to babysit) and went to our HMO provider’s clinic in Medical City. An internist attended to me, my BP was 140/100. She suggested that I undergo some blood tests and an ECG. I had to fast (food and drink!) for at least 10-12hours! Since Ane has work on a Friday, I had to do the test in the afternoon.

So the next day, I woke up around 5am to have something to eat. And I reserved my energy the whole day so I won’t faint. I asked my brother to drive me to the hospital but changed my mind the last minute. I felt I could still drive. The blood extraction and ECG took less than 10minutes.

I went back the next Wednesday for the result.  Bottomline is, my heart is in perfect condition but my Cholesterol levels are quite high (the benchmark is lower for breastfeeding moms). I reasoned to the Internist that I watch what I eat. It turns out that only about 20% is attributed to food for high cholesterol. It’s more on the genes. And it hit me. My father is hypertensive and has high cholesterol, too! Sheesh.

I was given a prescription for a med that is safe for breastfeeding moms. But after I’ve finished the tablets good for 14 days, I stopped.  I figured I can watch what I eat more carefully. I worry that my liver will give-in when I continue with the med.

I am just thankful that when this happened, I am covered by Ane’s HMO. We didn’t have to worry about the consultation fee, and of course the lab tests that could have potentially ruined our budget for the month. I’d rather pay for an insurance premium rather than be sorry later on. Hmmm, maybe we should consider to mortgage life insurance, too?

This health scare made me realize that I should take care of myself and that I’m not getting any younger!

Too much on my plate

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

I’ve been up since 230am. I just finished a cup of oatmeal drink to relax me a bit. While I’m waiting to feel sleepy again (hoping that Abi will stay asleep for a couple of hours more), I went online and found this beautiful heart pendant necklace:

heartpendant

Oh I think I blogged about a similar pendant ages ago. I guess I get drawn to the same things over and over again, hehe.

Anyway, as I was saying, I was up early. I actually am having trouble finding sleep for the past few days. For instance, I was awake from 9am Saturday to around 9pm the next day, Sunday! That was the worst as of today, and I’m hoping it won’t get more bad than that. Last night, I hit the sack just before midnight and woke at 230am, as I said. I waited for Abi to wake up for her feeding and afterwards, believe me, I tried to sleep again but could not.

Why, you might ask? I dunno. Maybe because I’m worrying about a lot of things? About stuff I can and cannot control, trivial or not.  I’ve always been a worrier and Ane has always been the equalizing factor in my life. But then I have some emotional battles that I have to fight on my own.  Sometimes, it is hard to explain but that’s how it is. And most of the time, this is just a phase.

So yes, this too shall pass :)

Klaire: Two months, Addendum

When I wrote this, I was sure I was forgetting something. And I did forget to include lots of Abi-updates!

Here goes…

At two months, Abi:

- is not too demanding anymore. She lets us put her down on the bed or the crib and she won’t cry! She would occasionally ask (with that paawa cry!) to be carried, and I would oblige naman, LOL!

- follows me around the room with her gaze. I know her eyesight is still not fully developed but I get a kick out of walking around to check if she really follows me, hehe.

- farts a lot! LOL! So unladylike! May pagmamanahan, hindi ko na sasabihin kung sino, baka may pumiyok LOL!

- loves her vitamins! :)

Lastly, I forgot to post the link to her 2nd month pictures – here.

ps. I am posting this entry using Live Writer, it’s nice to play around something new (at least to me!) again :)

In Malabon. We've been here since Tuesday evening and this is just the second time we brought Klaire here. It takes a lot of effort to pack and unpack the baby's things! We actually got the go-signal NOT to come home too often, hah! My MIL saw Abi's stuff and she said, it looked like we evacuated from a disaster-stricken apartment! LOL, at the inconveniences of having to shuffle here and there :) Abi loves our bed here, though.

Since getting here (actually since Palm Sunday), I've limited myself some internet time. Rather, I skipped logging-in to some of the sites I frequent. I would just check my email and my feeds (minus the chicka sites, hehe). And I haven't replied to the few comments I received. I'm just dropping by now to let you, my 10 readers (LOL! And that includes you, 'Tol Jeff, leave a comment man!) know, that I'm still here and I'm just contemplating while I take care of my two babies, Ane and Abi :)

~~~~~~~~~~
Just the same, I haven't had the chance to reflect and pray. Earlier, we turned on the TV and watched my seminarian cousin sing during a service in Malolos. That's the nearest I've gotten to being 'holy'. In the past years, I'm able to participate in various activities starting Holy Wednesday. I would join the processions, do Visita Iglesia, attend the Black Friday reflections (Judas betrayed Jesus with silver coins! Stuff like that), join the Salubong on Easter. But now having a baby, I'll probably wait years before I can join again.
So in my own little way, I'm going offline tomorrow and will be quiet the entire day (Yes, that includes trying to avoid nagging the husband to do this, that, etc. LOL!)
Speaking of silver coins, did you know that there is a reliable company that provides real silver coins nowadays? If you are a collector (or simply an investor) Monaco Rare Coins is here for you. It is a member of the Monex group of companies which has been a trusted leader in money investments. If you are an investor or simply a collector, Monaco can help you, and their rates are pretty adjustable to your budget. Plus they offer a reliable two-way buy-and-sell program, so you can be assured you are doing the right thing and putting your money & getting its worth in the long run.
Okay, my time's up and I need to revert back to my being a Wifey and Mommy :P Have a Blessed Holy Week everyone!
Klaire: Two months
"Watch me grow! Sissy and me, second month." First month picture here.
I'm a few days late. Abi turned two months on 30 March. I haven't been blogging because aside from my health scare last week (deserves another post), real life is on the way of my online life, hehe. I need to catch up on my blog updates!
Anyway, we celebrated the Princess' second month with a simple dinner at home with my brothers. I just bought lechon manok, ice cream and a half a roll of mocha-caramel cake from a nearby bakeshop (and yes, I'm back driving while Ane babysit Abi, again deserves another post!). Earlier, my brother R bought spaghetti from Jollibee, for long life hehe.
Abi updates. From her last Pedia visit a few days earlier, she grew two centimeters and finally gained back the weight she lost. Boy, am I glad! Right now, she's feeding so well, I'm sure she's slowly gaining the weight normal for her age. She had her BCG shot that day as well. I was whispering in her ear that she might get hurt a bit and that it was okay to cry. When Dr. Pedia started with the shot, she was trying to suppress and I told her to just let it out. And she did cry! Oh I was in pain with her, I couldn't look at her face. Poor baby. We were told to expect that she might get feverish from the shot and just give Calpol in that case. She didn't need the paracetamol, yey! Overall, the doctor gave Abi the A-ok stamp :)
We started mixed-feeding her in early March. She got so frustrated one night that Ane had to go run to the nearest drugstore to buy her formula and Dr. Edwards! It made me so sad that I could not provide for her actual needs but seeing that she became happier and more satisfied, that's my consolation. I was demoted from being a full-time milking momma to a formula-preparing mom. There are times, though, that she prefers me over the teats which makes me happy :)
She now can maintain eye-contact and "converses" with her coo's. And she now delights us with her smiles (right now, as I type this, she's sleeping and actually smiling!) and sometimes her laughs. I have seen her soundless laugh and have yet to hear her with sounds. Ane said he got the kicks out of just hearing her! Alam niyo yung humahagikgik, ganun daw!
She's asleep most of the time but her waking hours are longer now. We actually get to play with her now :) At night, she sleeps around 10-11pm and sleeps through -- but feeds around 2am and then again around 5am. The feedings are fuss-free and she goes back to sleep right after, so our nights are generally peaceful, yahoo! We co-sleep by the way and I just feel her movements when she wakes in the middle of the night. Her dad puts her to sleep at night (because she wouldn't sleep if it was me!) and she has become smarter. Why did I say so? Because she would refuse to sleep on Tuesday nights because she knows her dad has no work the next day! Har har!
That's it for the updates, for now. I'm not sure if I remember what I'm supposed to write but I will pop when there's something I forgot! I'm reminded to keep notes of her milestones and not just record her feedings, LOL! :)
